ABOUT THE COMPETITION
Chinese Kung Fu is a key part of 5000-year-old Chinese culture embodying the Chinese people's spirit of bravery, patriotism and sense of justice.

To promote Chinese culture and Kung fu as well as revitalize the spirit of the nation, Shenzhen Media Group comes together with the Shaolin Temple to launch the first Chinese Kung Fu Star Global TV Competition, with Shenzhen Satellite TV as the host.

The contest to select new-generation Kung Fu stars worldwide has also won support from domestic and overseas TV stations.
In the 20th century, Chinese Kung Fu icons Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li helped make Kung Fu better known to the world. They have also illustrated the Chinese people's spirit of bravery, hard-work ethic and relentless efforts to advance amid difficulties. The K-STAR contest is aimed at promoting Chinese culture and the Chinese nation's spirit, forging worldwide ties between Kung Fu lovers and accelerating the merging of different cultures across the globe. The contest will generate a new wave in shaping Kung Fu stars in the 21st century and cultivate new-generation Chinese Kung Fu icons.
The judging panel will comprise prestigious martial arts masters including Professor Ma Mingda, Han Jianzhong and Wu Bin, and also Masters of the Shaolin Kung Fu Research Institute. The Hong Kong Action Performing Arts Association will also be present; Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Eric Tsang, Yuen Woo-ping, Donnie Yen and Ching Siu-tung have said they intend to attend.
The winners will be entitled a role in TV series featuring Shaolin Kung Fu and the film "The Legend of the Monk Soldiers", which describes Shaolin Temple monks fighting against invading Japanese during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). There will also be a series of other works. This new generation of stars, able to perform real Kung Fu, will inject new life into China's martial arts film industry.
As China's youngest and fastest growing vanguard media outlet, Shenzhen Satellite TV covers China's 26 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions involving a total population of 200 million. The station will link with more than 50 domestic and overseas TV stations to make the K-STAR contest a focus of 2006 in China and throughout the world.
