Congratulations to our student Andy Lang
who has wowed the judges with an exemplary
performance in Bielefeld, Germany on 21-25
May 06 and guaranteed himself a place in the
finals in China next month. He was one of
only three in the whole of Europe to qualify.
A big thank you also goes to Darren Turner,
Edward Jenner, Tom Metcalfe and Adam Pierce
for showing such high standards of performance
and good conduct.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION |
 |
Chinese
Kung Fu is a key part of 5000-year-old Chinese
culture embodying the Chinese people's spirit
of bravery, patriotism and sense of justice.
To promote Chinese culture and Kung fu as well
as revitalize the spirit of the nation, Shenzhen
Media Group comes together with the Shaolin
Temple to launch the first Chinese Kung
Fu Star Global TV Competition, with
Shenzhen Satellite TV as the host.
The contest to select new-generation Kung Fu
stars worldwide has also won support from domestic
and overseas TV stations.

| In
the 20th century, Chinese Kung Fu icons
Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan
and Jet Li helped make Kung
Fu better known to the world. They have also
illustrated the Chinese people's spirit of
bravery, hard-work ethic and relentless efforts
to advance amid difficulties. The K-STAR contest
is aimed at promoting Chinese culture and
the Chinese nation's spirit, forging worldwide
ties between Kung Fu lovers and accelerating
the merging of different cultures across the
globe. The contest will generate a new wave
in shaping Kung Fu stars in the 21st century
and cultivate new-generation Chinese Kung
Fu icons. |
| The
judging panel will comprise prestigious martial
arts masters including Professor Ma Mingda,
Han Jianzhong and Wu Bin, and also Masters
of the Shaolin Kung Fu Research Institute.
The Hong Kong Action Performing Arts Association
will also be present; Jackie Chan, Jet Li,
Eric Tsang, Yuen Woo-ping, Donnie Yen and
Ching Siu-tung have said they intend to attend.

| The
winners will be entitled a role in TV series
featuring Shaolin Kung Fu and the film "The
Legend of the Monk Soldiers", which describes
Shaolin Temple monks fighting against invading
Japanese during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
There will also be a series of other works.
This new generation of stars, able to perform
real Kung Fu, will inject new life into China's
martial arts film industry. |

As China's youngest and fastest growing vanguard
media outlet, Shenzhen Satellite TV covers
China's 26 provinces, municipalities and autonomous
regions involving a total population of 200
million. The station will link with more than
50 domestic and overseas TV stations to make
the K-STAR contest a focus
of 2006 in China and throughout the world. |

PROGRAMME |
| 1.
China Regional Competitions: |
This
has produced top three in each of the six
China regionals - Shenzhen (also for entrants
from Taiwan and Hong Kong), Beijing, Shanghai,
Chengdu, Shenyang and Zhengzhou. |
| 2.
European Regional Preliminary Round: |
Five
competitions in total. Overseas regionals
were held in America/USA, Europe/Germany,
Oceania/Australia, Asia/Thailand, South Korea
and Africa/Egypt. UK contestants went to Germany
on 21-25 May 06. |
| 3.
European Regional Second Round: |
Five
competitions will select two from each of
the five regions to become the TOP 10 and
enter the worldwide finals. The number of
entrants for the second round has yet to be
decided. |

Note: The top three of each
regional competition in China and top 10 of
overseas regional competitions form the group
of "8 Constellations". There will
be one special women’s exhibition match.
There will be one special children’s
exhibition match. |
| 4.
The Finals: |
"8 Arhats"
will emerge by contest from the "8 Constellations".
These will then produce the top seven, or “Big
Dipper" to enter the last round. |
| 5. The Last Round: |
The
last round will produce top three of the contest.
An awards
ceremony will be held.

REQUIREMENTS |
| The
contestants will be divided into three Groups: |
- Adult Male Group (ages 18-28)
- Adult Female Group (ages 16-26)
- Children and Teenage Group (ages 6-15)
|
| Clothes: |
Contestants
in all regional competitions shall provide
their own Chinese-styled practice Kung Fu
outfits, trousers and shoes (or sports wear
and gym shoes). |
| Music: |
The
background music of the optional events in
all regional competitions must be self-provided
(CDs or household tapes). |
| Timings: |
-
The contestants are required
to strictly follow the prescribed time
length of each event.
-
Besides incense-igniting
timing and sandglass timing as prescribed
by the organizing committee, the international
standard stopwatch shall be uniformly
used in other events.
-
Measuring time shall
proceed from the starting form to the
closing form.
-
Overtime performance
of the contestant shall be regarded as
breaking the rules and a certain number
of points shall be deducted accordingly.

| Some
criteria for marks: |
-
Agility with eyes, hand
and steps, in high spirit and energy.
- Traditional movements in kicking, striking,
wrestling and grappling.
- Dignified posture, clear method, smooth
power and coordinated actions, peculiar
style, substantial contents and vivid expression
of consciousness and clear rhythms.

| Etiquette: |
The
contestants shall be required to salute in
the traditional Chinese Wushu manner to the
audience and judges when they enter into and
leave the venue. |
| Conduct: |
-
Only contestants with
no racial prejudice and criminal records,
and who do not belong to any pernicious
organizations shall be allowed to participate
in the competition.

Anyone who can set a
great example in martial arts and high
morality, aspiring after peace and nurturing
a heart of general kindness can sign
up for the competition regardless of
their nationality, religion or skin
colour.
