WHAT IS SHAOLIN KUNG FU

Kung Fu is an ancient exercise system developed over 1500 years ago by monks wanting to strengthen their bodies in preparation for long hours spent in meditation at the Shaolin Temple. Over time these different combinations of strong, dance-like, fighting forms  developed into a variety of styles that could also be used to train in self defense. Shaolin Kung Fu is, however, still recognised as the original martial art and is the touch stone for all other styles.

BENEFITS OF SHAOLIN KUNG FU

Practising kung fu is a fantastic way to improve your fitness, flexibility and strength – fast. Unlike other sports such as running, biking or weight lifting, which repetitively target the same limited set of muscles, practising kung fu forms (sequences of strong, combative movements) uses many different muscles which are then elongated through extensive stretching and kicking moves. Training in kung fu therefore develops long, lean muscles that retain their flexibility allowing students to build their strength, while remaining agile. These sessions also swing between high energy sprinting, boxing and kicking, to slower strength building forms making it the ultimate way to interval train, widely accepted as the most efficient way to burn calories, lose weight and increase energy levels.

And the benefits of training in kung fu aren’t just physical, but also improve general feelings of well being. As skills in this art improve, so does self confidence and the ability to clear the mind and focus on achieving your goals both in kung fu and beyond.

We have a range of kung fu classes where you can learn traditional Shaolin forms, self defence skills, weapon forms and much more. Whatever your age, gender or skill level come to our classes to learn, improve and get fit in the process.
